John Lee Patten

Devoted & Beloved Husband, Father and Grandfather

John Lee Patten, 74, of Albion, passed away suddenly due to natural causes on Sunday, June 10, 2018.  He was born January 15, 1944 in Albion, a son of the late Glendon and Leora Pearl (Corbett) Patten.  John graduated from Northwestern High School in 1962.  He worked for Rogers Brothers in Albion and then retired from the Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad.  He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Albion, the Masonic Lodge in Albion and the Conneaut, OH Boat Club.  John loved being outdoors, whether it was at his hunting camp in Cherry Grove or his cottage on Lake Erie.  He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pittsburgh Pirates.  John always made his family his number one priority and he never missed an event that his grandson was participating in.  Although he is gone, he is leaving behind a legacy of hard work, integrity and honesty.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Erickson.  He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Janice (Moon) Patten, whom he married October 23, 1976, a daughter, Jennifer Patten-Rudolph and her husband, Nicholas, of Meadville, a grandson, Aiden Rudolph, four siblings, Esther Swift of Edinboro, Ruth McBeth of Girard, Glenn Patten and his wife, Marion, of Conneaut, OH, Ann Adamson and her husband, Denny, of Albion, a brother-in-law, Jess Erickson of Girard, two sisters-in-law, Carolyn Merryman of Erie, Barbara Elaine Nardo and her husband, Sam, of Erie, and many nieces and nephews.  Calling hours will be held at the Mattera Funeral Home, 188 East State Street, Albion, on Thursday from 5pm to 8pm and on Friday from 9am until the time of a funeral service there at 10am with Pastor Duk Hee Han and Pastor Gregg Giles officiating.  Burial will follow in Albion Cemetery.  Memorials may be made in honor of John to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 1645 West 8th Street, Erie, PA  16505.  To send flowers, light a memory candle or leave a condolence, please visit
