Flora Mae "Flossie" Rice

Flora Mae “Flossie” Rice, 95, formerly of Albion, passed away Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Fairview Manor where she had been residing.  Flossie was born July 25, 1922 in Girard, a daughter of the late Roa and Lou Edna (Bax) Silverthorn.  She was a member of St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church in Albion, she was involved with the women of the Moose in Albion, she always volunteered at the Albion Senior Center and she enjoyed singing with the Cherry Hill Gals.  She was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, painting, singing, dancing and playing bingo.  Flossie truly loved life.  She was one of the most caring, compassionate and loving people you would ever have the pleasure to meet.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Rice, in 2003, a son, Robert Rice, a granddaughter, Amy Kitcey, a sister, Virginia Jackson, and a brother, Clarence Silverthorn.  She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Huya and her husband, John, of Albion, Louise Vogt of Girard, a brother, Bob Silverthorn of Warren, PA, 7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  Calling hours will be held at the Mattera Funeral Home, 188 East State Street, Albion, on Monday morning from 9am until 11am.  A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Albion at 11am with Fr. James Kennelley officiating.  Burial will follow in Albion Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made in honor of Flossie to GECAC, 18 West 9th Street, Erie, PA  16501.  To light a memory candle or leave a condolence please visit www.matterafuneralhome.com
