Kenneth James

Kenneth James "Jim" Beery

We lost a gentle spirit with the passing of Jim Beery.  This huggable teddy bear was a man of very few words, but had such a good heart.  He was born at St. Vincent Health Center on December 21, 1959, to Theron “Gene” and Elaine (Carr) Beery.  He was a graduate of Northwestern High School, Albion, PA, class of 1978.  He is preceded in death by all of his grandparents, a baby sister, his mother, Elaine, and a brother, Brett.  Jim leaves behind Judy, his wife of 26 years, his father, two sisters, one brother, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.  He was a muscle car enthusiast, his pride being his two ’69 GTO Judges.  Jim loved all creatures, helping rescue more than just dogs and cats.  He and his wife, Judy, were a foster home for rescues for many years.  At one point, they had fostered 85 dogs in 5 years!  Several of them were ones Jim brought home himself.  Jim and Judy traveled to Mississippi after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, and lived in their camper during Hurricane Rita.  They helped care for hundreds of rescued strays, even bringing home seven of them.  Jim owned Beery Auto Body Repair, a business he purchased from his father, for many years.  He then decided to do railroad salvage work for several years.  He returned to the collision business, working at Smith/Gray in Meadville.  After he became disabled, his life changed dramatically.  He enjoyed traveling as much as he could.  He found comfort in his home, still helping to care for critical care animals that Judy took in.  If you have someone in your life that has a chronic disabling disease, please reassure them that you love them unconditionally.  Memorial donations may be made to your local rescue shelter, Orphan Angels Cat Sanctuary, 5439 West Lake Road, Erie, PA 16505, or Erie Animal Network, 51448 Peach Street, Erie, PA 16509.  No calling hours or service will be held.  Burial will be private by the family.  The Mattera Funeral Home, 188 East State Street, Albion, is handling the funeral arrangements.  To light a memory candle or leave a condolence, please visit www.matterafuneralhome.com

The only times I ever met Jim or saw him with Judy was when they were helping others-both canine and human. We met transporting rescued dogs and he and Judy fostered our sweet rescue dog, Homer, for 9 months before we adopted him. I hope Jim has the blessing to reunite with all the animals he helped and loved who have passed and that he finds the peace he deserves. Our prayers are with you, Judy.
