Robert Merritt Jr.

Gone Too Soon

This is the story of Robert Merritt Jr.  Robert was an amazing person with a heart of gold.  He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother and friend.  Sadly, at the young age of 38, he has left us far too soon, passing away on Saturday, June 24, 2017.  Robert loved to hunt and listen to music.  He loved to help people.  He was always willing to lend a hand.  He loved spending time with Laura and the children.  They were his heart, his pride and joy.  Robert was born January 14, 1979 in Erie, a son of Robert Merritt Sr. and his wife, Sheryl, of Springboro, and Bonnie (Dombrowski) Merritt of Erie.  Robert graduated from Northwestern High School in 1997, and was employed with the S.C.I. in Albion.  Robert was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Richard Dombrowski, and his paternal grandparents, Robert Carlisle Merritt and Marie Finster.  In addition to his parents, he is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Laura (Sawdy) Merritt, whom he married October 14, 2000, eight children, Alesha, Elijah, Seth, Nathan, Kaleb, Averie, Ethan, Ryan, all at home, a brother, Brad Merritt of Erie, a sister, Danielle McLaughlin of Springboro, and several step brothers and sisters.  Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins.  Calling hours will be held at the Mattera Funeral Home, 188 East State Street, Albion, on Friday from 4pm to 7pm.  A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 11am.  Burial will follow in Spring Cemetery, Springboro.  Memorials may be made to the family and will be placed in a trust fund to be used for Robert’s children.  To send flowers, light a memory candle or leave a condolence, please visit www.matterafuneralhome.com

I don’t know your family. I was visiting graves at the Springboro cemetery. I was leaving and I saw the most beautiful grave and decorations. I saw Mr Robert Jr Merritt’s grave. I am so sorry for the loss. I can tell he has been loved by how well his resting place is decorated and the beautiful picture on the grave. I had to look up his obituary. Rest in peace.

You will always be my baby. Nothing could have prepared me for this day. I am devastated at the thought that I will never be able to hug you and kiss you on your cheek good-bye when I visit your wife and babies. There will forever be a hole in my heart. I will surround your wife and children with love and comfort and do all I can to take care of them. RIP my sweet little boy. I love you.
